Distretti tecnologici ed efficacia delle strategie pubbliche nella mobilitazione del venture capital

L'obiettivo del paper consiste nel mettere a punto un modello previsionale dell'efficacia delle strategie di intervento pubblico finalizzate ad incentivare l'impegno del venture capital nello sviluppo dei distretti tecnologici. Nel perseguire tale obiettivo si attinge ad una molteplicita' di filoni di studio che sinora hanno trovato poche occasioni di convergenza. Si fa riferimento alla Teoria dei Sistemi Locali In-novativi ed in particolare a quella della cosiddetta "Tripla Elica", alla Teoria dell'Impresa Innovativa ed, infine, all'Approccio Sistemico-Vitale. Accostando questi tre ambiti di ricerca emergono a nostro parere nuove ed interessanti prospettive di analisi sulle modalita' piu' efficaci per incentivare l'azione del VC, il cui ruolo positivo nell'affermazione delle imprese innovative e' ampiamente riconosciuto. Gli studi sinora compiuti sull'argomento hanno privilegiato la dimensione macro-economica, bypassando piu' o meno sistematicamente le peculiarita' dei contesti locali nei quali il VC si trova ad operare. Inserendo nell'analisi le caratteristiche dei DT, ed i loro stadi di sviluppo, diviene inoltre possibile ragionare in termini evolutivi sulle politiche di sostegno al VC, da molte parti invocate come necessarie per la creazione di un mercato sufficientemente ampio del capitale di rischio per le nuove imprese

How to Develop Collaboration in Drug Development Process: The Role of Professional Service Firms

The innovation chain of the pharmaceutical industry is more and more complex. In particular, a new type of players, the start-ups founded by researchers (Academic Start-ups) have proven to be particularly effective in the first steps of exploring new, radically innovative technologies. These small start-ups miss the financial resources and the industrial experience necessary to embark in the later stage of technologies‘ development. To overcome these limits, what academic start-ups require the most is a collaborative linkage with large biotech and pharma companies. To such end, Business Development Professionals are offering their services to academic start-ups, to set up a collaborative linkage with potential partners. Our article investigates the process of engagement between Academic Start-ups and Business Development Professionals and in particular, we focus on the factors that influence collaboration between the two actors. In order to investigate the development process of collaboration we conducted an exploratory study trough the submission of a semi-structured questionnaire covering different aspects of the engagement process to a sample of business professionals. The study provide first evidences about the main factors that prevent the development of collaborations and provides some suggestions to overcome the challenges that both parts found in the collaboration process

The Entrepreneurial University: How to Develop the Entrepreneurial Orientation of Academia

In the last years, universities have assumed a prominent role in the science and technology-based economic development. The concept of entrepreneurial university, a key concept in the triple helix model developed by Etzkowitz, identifies the evolution of the university role with the addition to the traditional missions of university (education and research) of a third mission that is to contribute to the economic development through the transfer of research results from the laboratory to the economic system. The objective of the research is to analyze how universities are implementing this new mission and investigate factors affecting their entrepreneurial orientation. More specifically, our paper aims to investigate the existence of a relationship among the entrepreneurial orientation of university and some factors representing the internal and external context in which the university is involved

Polyethylenimine-mediated expression of transgenes in the acinar cells of rats salivary glands in vivo

Non viral-mediated transfection of plasmid DNA provides a fast and reliable way to express various transgenes in selected cell populations in live animals. Here, we show an improvement of a previously published method that is based on injecting plasmid DNA into the ductal system of the salivary glands in live rats. Specifically, using complexes between plasmid DNA and polyethyleneimine (PEI) we show that the expression of the transgenes is directed selectively to the salivary acinar cells. PEI does not affect the ability of cells to undergo regulated exocytosis, which was one of the main drawbacks of the previous methods. Moreover PEI does not affect the proper localization and targeting of transfected proteins, as shown for the apical plasma membrane water channel aquaporin 5 (AQP5). Overall, this approach, coupled with the use of intravital microscopy, permits to conduct localization and functional studies under physiological conditions, in a rapid, reliable, and affordable fashion

La filiera automotive italiana vive un momento di crescita e sviluppo, che conferma il trend positivo avviato negli ultimi anni. Tuttavia, l’industria automotive globale è al centro di profondi cambiamenti che potrebbero portare all’affermarsi di scenari futuri dominati da veicoli a motorizzazioni alternative, auto a guida autonoma, o città riorganizzate sulla base di nuovi paradigmi di mobilità. Le imprese italiane della componentistica potrebbero rappresentare il futuro dell’industria della mobilità in Italia, ma le sfide da vincere sono numerose. Il volume Osservatorio sulla componentistica automotive italiana 2017 è stato realizzato con il duplice obiettivo di approfondire punti di forza e debolezza delle imprese italiane, e di collocarli nel quadro complessivo di opportunità e minacce che emergono dagli sviluppi dell’industria a livello internazionale
